At The Y, we are passionate about helping West Auckland Tamariki and Rangatahi grow their love of basketball. Whether players are picking up a basketball for the first time or developing advanced skills, our goal is to provide a fun, inclusive, and positive environment where every player can Grow Their Game.
We are excited to welcome all teams back to the court and look forward to another fantastic season of basketball.
Please note:
Due to the increasing number of teams and as part of a new competition format being trialled across our junior grades, we have introduced a divisional structure for Under 9 teams.
Please note that the dates are when you have games- If there is a missing week in your schedule that is when your division will have a BYE
Alignment with other basketball associations
We have aligned with many basketball associations across New Zealand by organising Miniball teams into divisions rather than traditional A, B, C, and D grades.
Balanced and competitive games
Teams have still been placed through our grading process and assigned to divisions based on their current playing ability. This helps create enjoyable and competitive games throughout the season.
Reduced pressure on young players
In many cases, teams that may previously have been separated into different letter grades are actually very similar in ability. Using divisions encourages player development and enjoyment without placing unnecessary emphasis on grade labels.
Competition growth
Due to increased team numbers, we have adjusted the competition format. This means teams will play one fewer game during the season, and fees have been adjusted accordingly.
As we move into the Round Robin phase of the season, competition communications regarding draw changes, defaults, and scheduling updates will be sent directly to team managers and coaches. If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please contact your school or club coordinator first. They will liaise with our admin team where required.
We would like to thank all players, coaches, managers, referees, volunteers, schools, clubs, and whānau for their ongoing support of Y Basketball.
We wish all teams the very best for the season and look forward to seeing players develop their confidence, skills, teamwork, and love for the game.
Play hard, play fair, and most importantly, have fun! 🏀
We understand that it’s hard for parents to leave their kids in other people’s care, that’s why we take safety very seriously. The Y Holiday Programmes are proudly approved and audited by Child Youth and Family (CYF).
All The Y Holiday Programme Staff undergo police checks, inducted and receive on-going training which include Child Protection, Behaviour Management and Health & Safety.
