Volunteering with The Y

Volunteering with The Y

Volunteering is freely choosing to perform work for the community without payment. At The Y (formerly YMCA), your time and talent go a long way.

Volunteers have been the backbone of The Y since its establishment over 160 years ago. Today volunteers donate their time to help conduct a wide variety of programmes and services. We acknowledge the unique contribution that each Y volunteer brings and we thank them on behalf of the communities they serve.

The Y provides a diverse range of volunteering opportunities for the communities we operate in, our participants and members and importantly our staff. There is a pressing need for a deeper commitment of time, talent and resources from more people – for greater community involvement. There is also a need to give more people the chance to exercise responsible community leadership.

By becoming a Y volunteer you have a unique opportunity to contribute to your community in a way that is both meaningful to you and to the wider community.

Volunteering can help you learn new skills, help others, gain a sense of purpose, make new friends, build self-confidence, explore career opportunities while having fun and enjoying yourself!
