In December last year, the Sir William Jordan Recreation Centre managed by YMCA got festive for the season, welcoming almost a thousand locals through the doors to celebrate at its annual Christmas Party.

It was a day full of excitement, kicking off with a joint float in the Onehunga Christmas Parade, by the Sir William Jordan Recreation and Fitness Centre and the Onehunga War Memorial Pool and Leisure Centre managed by YMCA. The ‘Jake and the Never-Land Pirates’ themed float was pulled together with the help of the Swim School team, the Raise-Up youth development crew and children involved with programmes run at the centres.

Following the parade, families, friends and all members of the community were welcomed to check out the Jordan Recreation Centre, offering a place to relax and unwind, while learning about how YMCA helps to build stronger kids, families and communities. Guests were able to spend quality time together while celebrating the very near festive season!

“This year’s Christmas Party was a resounding success. It was perfectly timed around the local Christmas Parade so we were able to invite everyone back to the centre to get into the holiday spirit. We were so pleased with the turnout on the day,” says Centre Manager Greg Tollan.

Families were treated to a bouncy castle, sausage sizzle, face-painting, games and challenges. There were plenty of spot prizes and giveaways, as well as a surprise visit from Santa Claus who dished out pressies to the well-behaved kids – letting everyone feel the Christmas cheer!

In addition to the fun and games, parents and families were able to learn about health and fitness and receive free health checks and massages. Nobody was left hungry with lots to eat, including a fancy cake stall, and a DJ played lively music, keeping everyone entertained.

“It was marvelous to see such a mix of people from the community having a blast together and mingling at our centre, soaking up the festive atmosphere. A big thank you to all those that helped out and for our special visit from Santa!” says Greg.

Congratulations to everyone involved for pulling off another great Christmas bash and for living up to YMCA’s values of giving families and friends a place to come together as a community. We can’t wait to hear about it all again next year!
