The Y Hamilton Early Learning Centre

Early learning with children at its heart

Kia ora, and welcome to The Y Hamilton Early Learning Centre (formerly known as YMCA), where the most important thing is having fun!

Our childcare centre in Hamilton provides a safe, caring environment that is all about children having a go, from creating a play dough sculpture, to building the biggest ever block tower. We have heaps of activities for children to take part in, and our fully licensed teachers ensure kids are always learning lots, and having a fantastic time.

We love our multicultural environment, which sees us frequently speaking in Te Reo and following Tikanga Maori, so your tamariki can learn the importance of using one of our other official languages. Whanau are also incredibly important to us, so the more you can be involved, the better.

No day at our childcare centre in Hamilton is the same, and we are certain your child will look forward to walking through our doors, excited for the fun that lays ahead.

Our Curriculum

Our aim is to educate children in a safe, caring environment, where they can have a blast. Our early childhood curriculum follows the Te Whariki Early Childhood Curriculum, set by the Ministry of Education. From this we want our children to become competent, confident learners, who are healthy in their mind, body and spirit. We also want them to realise that they make a contribution to society that is valued. It is important to us that kids learn holistically, which is encompassed by Te Whariki’s values of empowerment/whakamana, family and community/whanau tangata, relationships/nga hononga, and holistic development/kotahitanga. We take care to include these principles throughout our early learning programmes, whether we are going on a fun trip or creating a piece of art.

Explore, learn & smile

Hamilton Early Learning centre, in the heart of Waikato, has a close connection with New Zealand's agricultural culture.

We incorporate weekly farm visits into our learning - these regular sessions take them from a one-off novelty into deeper understanding of the world around us.

Strength & success

Our art and craft zone with a wide range of items encourages children to explore their creative side and express themselves through creations.

Our building block area contains a range of blocks for kids to build structures with supporting one of the most valuable learning experiences for young children. Block play stimulates learning in all domains of development, intellectual, physical, social, emotional and language.

We recognise the unique requirements of our younger class members - we have a separate area for our under 2s to support their specialised development.

Jump, move & have fun

We are located adjacent to the Hamilton Recreation Centre, and the children in our care benefit from sessions with experienced children's instructors which teach fundamental movement skills through fun based learning.

Our large grounds, grassy area and covered outdoor play area also allow the tamariki to keep on the move during the day if they wish.
