This Christmas, The Y Team at Ellerslie Leisure Centre once again supported the Foster Hope Christmas Gift Drive, helping ensure children in foster care across Aotearoa received a gift to call their own.

For many tamariki entering care around the holiday period, Christmas can be a time of uncertainty and transition. Foster Hope collects new, unwrapped gifts for children from babies through to 18-year-olds, with a particular focus on those who come into care suddenly during this peak period. These gifts are carefully selected so social workers can match them to each child’s age, needs and situation.
This year, the Ellerslie community came together to donate more than 130 gifts. Staff, members, and whānau contributed toys, games and essentials, each one chosen with care. For many children, this may be the only present they receive over Christmas, making the gesture both simple and deeply meaningful.

The Y Team at Ellerslie has partnered with Foster Hope across previous Christmas gift drives, and the ongoing support reflects a shared commitment to care, dignity and community responsibility. Small acts of generosity, when combined, can have a powerful impact.
Looking ahead, The Y Ellerslie is also planning a community food drive at Easter, continuing the focus on showing up for families when support is most needed.
This season is about kindness and connection, and we’re proud to be part of a community that continues to give with heart.
