Front door locked hours

The front door will be locked for your and our safety at all times. At City Lodge, please press the green button by the front door to exit the building. At YMCA Hostel, the front door is controlled by a sensor and will be opened automatically when its sensors any movement. To enter the buildings, please tape the security tag (attached to your key) in front of the card reader that is located at the entrances near the doorbell.

Press the doorbell above the front door intercom to contact our team if you cannot enter the building.

Please note that a lost key is subject to a $250.00 replacement cost.

Visitors

As part of our policy, unregistered guests are not allowed on sites at all times. You must see staff at reception for arrangement before guests' arrival.

Lounge and Kitchens - Large gatherings are not permitted, and the accommodation management reserves the right to decline entry or ask patrons to leave without warning. We strive to provide a clean, comfortable and safe living environment to our guests. At YMCA Hostel, we have a large communal lounge on the ground floor as reception and two small kitchens upstairs. At City Lodge, we have a large communal lounge and a commercial kitchen located at the basement. If you need to hire dishes, please see staff at receptions.

Smoking

If you wish to smoke, please use the designated smoking shelter at the rear of the building. Please dispose of cigarette butts within the ashtray provided. By law, NO smoking is enforced anywhere inside the building, including accommodation rooms, common areas and stairways. Smoking is also prohibited at the front entrance to this building. There is an automatic service charge for any person found to have smoked inside the building or within a non-smoking area.

Please check out before 10am. A later check-out time may be agreed by prior arrangement.

Payments

We accept cash, Eftpos, Visa and Master Card payments.

Casual Guests: We require full payment upon check-ins.

Bond: We require $70 bond as a deposit for the key and security for the room. It is refundable after room inspection.

Breakfast

We have lovely cafes around City Lodge and their details are below:

Cooking

Cooking facilities are available on the Basement level. Please use the extractor fans when cooking and ensure you turn off the gas hobs afterwards.

Please leave the cooking facilities clean and tidy. Wash, dry, and put all the items away.

Locking your room door

Round handle: To lock the door, press the button on the doorknob inside the room and pull the door closed. If no button is present, the door will lock automatically.

Door handle: To lock the door, turn the small switch on the door handle and pull the door closed.

Make sure you carry your room key with you at all times.

Please lock your door at all times.

Fire evacuation

If there is a fire, an alarm will sound.

Please leave your room and go down the stairwell to the front of the building. Do not use the lift.

Gather outside the building on Vincent Street and keep the driveway clear.

In-House Services

Internet Access

A wireless internet connection is accessible for free in all rooms and public areas. Please collect a username and password from reception.

Printing/Copying

The printing facility is available at reception for $0.20 a page for black/white copies. (prices are subject to change)

Mail

Mail addressed to you can be collected from the reception.

If you have any mail to post, please drop it at reception, and we will post it. Postage must already be supplied.

To send large packages, you must go to the Post Office. See “Outside Services” in this compendium to learn more.

If you are leaving and expect mail to be delivered within a week after your departure, please tell reception so we can arrange for it to be forwarded to you or held until you return.

Car parking

Short-term car parking is available at $25 per night (price is subject to change). Please register your vehicle at reception.

Unregistered vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Vincent Street is a Tow Away zone from Monday to Saturday, 8:00 am-6:00 pm, and this is strictly enforced. However, car park buildings are within easy walking distance of City Lodge. Please ask reception for directions.

Fitness centre

The Y Auckland City gym is located 50m from City Lodge.

Please see the gym reception team for the casual visit charges and the weekly membership rates.

Gym hours are:

  • Mon-Thurs 5:30 am-9:00pm
  • Friday 5:30 am-8:00 pm
  • Sat & Sun 8:00 am-4:00 pm
  • Public Holidays 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Cleaning

Short-Term Guests: Guests on our daily rate have their rooms serviced daily.

If you do not want your towels changed, please hang them on the towel rail located in your bathroom. Please ask reception if you need extra towels (or other supplied items) during your stay. Extra charges may apply.

Weekly & Long-Term Guests: Guests on our weekly rates will have their rooms serviced once a week. Clean towels and sheets will be provided at this time. Please see reception for the cleaning schedule.

Please empty your rubbish and recycling in the bins provided, located in the car park, at any given time.

Extra room cleaning: If you want to have your room cleaned more than once a week, please inform us at reception.

An extra charge of $25 will be applicable for extra cleaning. The extra cleaning includes vacuuming and general surface areas.

Do Not Disturb (DND)

Please display the DND sign on your door if you wish for privacy. This DND can be displayed for a maximum of 3 days; on the 4th day, housekeeping will enter your room for inspection.

Pillows

If you require an additional pillow, one can be obtained at reception. Extra pillows are available for daily rate guests only. Not available for weekly or long term stays.

Electric fans, Heaters, Hairdryers, Alarm Clocks

These items can be loaned from the reception. Please ask at reception. Subject to availability.

Laundry

We have self-service, coin-operated washing and drying machines in the laundry room located on Level B.

Washing costs are $4 per cycle. Laundry tokens can be purchased from reception.

Drying costs are $4 per cycle. Both $2 and $1 coins can be used.

Please see reception if you would need to convert your NZD into the correct denominations.

Complimentary laundry powder is available in the laundry room.

Drying racks are available at reception if you wish to air-dry your clothes.

An iron and ironing board is also available in the laundry room. (Please do not remove these items from the laundry room)

New Zealand has four networks: One New Zealand, Spark, Skinny, and 2 Degrees. Free sim cards are available at the reception (subject to availability).

Grocery stores

There is a convenience store across the road and many more on Queen Street and Victoria Street.

The CBD has two supermarkets: Countdown at 17-25 Victoria Street West and New World at 125 Queen Street.

Lim Chour, an Asian supermarket, is located behind the Asian Food Hall at 184 Karangahape Road.

Post offices

If you need to send large packages, you must visit a New Zealand Post Office branch. They will advise you of the cost and send the item within New Zealand or overseas. The two closest to City Lodge are:

  • Post Shop, 44 Wellesley Street

If you need to have items dry-cleaned during your stay, these are the two closest to City Lodge:

Money

Banks / ATMs

New Zealand has several different banks. They are easy to join and are located close to the hotel.

Most banks are open Monday to Friday, 09:00-16:00 and a few in the city are open on Saturday morning too.

All the ATMs can be used 24 hours a day.

Currency exchange

You can change money at all the banks, but sometimes they have a higher commission rate than the currency exchange stores.

Taxis

Please see us at reception if you want to arrange a taxi.

Buses

If you are going to be travelling by bus in Auckland, it is recommended to purchase an AT Hop card as buses do not accept cash anymore. This is a reusable prepay smart card which will allow you to travel on trains, ferries and buses at discounted fares. At Hop Cards can be purchased from the Britomart Transportation Centre or at One Stop Convenience Store at 135 Karangahape Road.

Link bus service

Link bus services are the easiest way to get around Auckland. Just look for the red, green, amber or blue buses. There is no need for a timetable as each service operates on such a frequent basis. Simply head to the appropriate bus stop and wait for the right coloured bus.

Rental cars/campervans

There is a wide range of rental car companies throughout Auckland and New Zealand. However, your rental car company will depend on your budget and pick-up and drop-off locations.

A few companies will let you hire a car for one day only, but most have a three-day minimum hire and generally, the longer that you hire the car, the cheaper the daily rate.

If you are interested in hiring a car, please come and see us at reception, and we will help you find the best rental car company to suit your needs.

We understand our influence on the environment and are taking steps to achieve sound environmental practices.

We are committed to reviewing and improving our daily operations in order to maintain the environment for future generations.

Here are some of the things we are doing to help:

Water Conservation

  • Providing sink plugs in all rooms and kitchens
  • Fixing leaks in taps and toilets
  • Using bark in the garden
  • Replacing towels for daily guests only when these are left on the floor, or on demand
  • Replacing towels and linen for long-term guests once a week

Waste Management

  • Providing glasses and cups in guest rooms instead of plastic or cardboard cups
  • Informing guests about the recycling bins in the kitchen and back parking lot
  • Separating recyclables from rubbish bins (if wrongly disposed of)
  • Installing a soap dispenser in all rooms to eliminate soap/shampoo packages
  • Providing sugar sachets in biodegradable packages in guest rooms
  • Providing coffee, tea, and creamer in the thinnest packaging possible
  • Sending comment cards to all guests through their email addresses
  • Placing half-used toilet rolls from guest rooms in staff washrooms instead of disposing of them
  • Providing a permanent welcome information card in the rooms
  • Using biodegradable dishwashing soap
  • Reusing paper by printing on both sides or using it as scrap paper
  • Purchasing 100% recycled paper
  • Donating Lost & Found items to the City Mission & Salvation Army if they are not collected within three months
  • Supplying detergent in a communal box in the laundry room to reduce waste from individual packaging
  • The worm farm at City Lodge converts kitchen waste to nutritious compost for the plants.
  • Using ink printer cartridges and toners that can be recycled by Croxley recycling centre.
  • Placing cleaning chemicals in refillable wall dispensers to reduce waste

Energy Efficiency

  • Replacing light bulbs with energy-saving bulbs as needed
  • Requesting guests to turn off the lights and appliances when leaving their rooms
  • Turning off lights when leaving the Manager’s room
  • Having the heating system on a timer between 05:00-1000 and 17:00-24:00
  • Insulating all hot water cylinders and pipes

Conservation

  • Encouraging guests to contribute to the environment by providing free parking for hybrid vehicles
  • City Lodge has installed two bird feeders and a bird bath in an attempt to bring bird life back to the city.

Community

  • Providing guests with information on different volunteer projects
  • Encouraging guests to participate in rubbish pickups with staff
  • Staff members participate in a conservation or community project every other month
