Weather Updates for The Y Staff

Operations: 15 February

As of 10am Tuesday morning, we are planning for all Auckland Y Recreation and Y Early Learning Centres to open as normal tomorrow (Wednesday), unless you hear otherwise from your manager.

All Auckland OSCAR sites will re-open except for Warkworth, which is planned for Thursday.

Hamilton/Waikato: Many sites are resuming normal operations already, we will re-open additional OSCAR schools in line with when they open.

Customers with missed bookings:

We will not be providing any refunds for any missed bookings, however we will be providing makeup classes (rec centres) and credits (OSCAR)

Operations: 14 February

All Recreation Centres across Auckland will remain closed.

All Auckland Early Learning Centres will remain closed.

Camp Adair and Shakespear will remain closed.

All before school care programmes in Auckland will not operate. We will make a decision regarding after school care on Tuesday morning, aligning with school openings.

At this stage, The Y Hamilton Recreation Centre will open as normal, however we will continue to assess and make further decisions once we know more.

13 February

The Y Hamilton Recreation Centre will close at 4pm today to allow everyone to get home safely.

Apart from Hamilton West, all After School Care programmes across Waikato and Tauranga will be closed today. This is to minimise any risk during travel in high-risk conditions for children, parents and Y staff.

12 February

Important announcement: 13 February operations

The Y Hamilton Recreation Centre and Early Learning Centres will be open as normal.

Out of School care programmes (both within schools and Y centres) will not be running.

All Auckland Early Learning Centres will be closed.

Camp Adair and Shakespear outdoor camps will be closed.

All Auckland Y Recreation Centres will be closed.

Your priority at all times is to keep yourself and others safe. The situation is subject to change, please continue to check in with your manager to stay up-to-date.

Unless advised otherwise, our centres and programmes are operating as normal. Please make sure you are checking your journey to work ahead of time (Auckland Transport Travel Updates link above), and you are checking in with your manager if your travel is impacted.

Auckland Y Recreation centres

Due to incoming extreme weather, all Y Recreation Centres across Auckland will be closing at 4.30pm on 31 January.

Nan's Pool at The Y Cameron Pool is currently out of action due to damage from flooding.

The indoor pool, spa, sauna and steam room at The Y Onehunga Pool is currently closed due to planned maintenance.

Camp Adair

Currently medium/high risk of flooding, preparations underway. No bookings due this week.

In the event of the audible warning alarm sounding, please vacate the camp.

Out of School Care

Due to Ministry guidance, out of school care programmes are not operating at these locations:

  • Mt Albert Primary School
  • Sunnybrae Normal School
  • Warkworth Primary
  • Kadimah School
  • Papatoetoe Rugby Club

Early Learning Centres

All Auckland Y Early Learning Centres have been advised to close until 7 February, unless care is needed for essential workers.

Relief payment available

A civil defence payment is available for those impacted by flooding.

You must be in one of these situations:

  • you had to leave your home (e.g. you've been evacuated or you're on stand-by)
  • you were away from your home at the time of the emergency and can't return
  • you need help with food, bedding or clothing
  • you can't go to work.

You must also:

  • not be able to cover your costs from insurance (or you haven't been paid yet)
  • not have access to any other help, e.g:
    • public donations
    • other government relief funds
    • charitable relief funds.
