Join The Y for an amazing New Zealand camp experience

We are now in pursuit of Outdoor Instructors to join our team in Port Waikato. The surf camp season will run from November 2023to April 2024. This is a seasonal position where hours/shifts will vary week to week, which may include weekdays, weekends and overnight stays.

What will you be doing as an Outdoor Instructor?

  • Instruct outdoor educational programmes to groups largely aged 8-14, including setting up and packing down equipment.
  • School Camp programmes- including activity instruction, free time, mealtimes and sleepover support.
  • Be responsible for Health and Safety of campers.
  • Set up and pack down equipment for all activities in a timely manner
  • Assist in general day to day camp tasks which include but not limited to cleaning, maintenance, and catering as and when required by a line manager.

What experience/skills do you need?

  • Relevant certificates, qualifications and technical skills, including; Austswim teacher of swimming and water safety, International Surf Association Surf Instructor Course – Level 1, Surf Life Saving Bronze Medallion Award. Comprehensive training will be provided.
  • Experience working with children and/or camps i.e. can include job placements, work experience, volunteer work, etc.
  • Knowledge of water safety and experience with water based activities, being a strong confident swimmer is an advantage.
  • Experience in delivering outdoor programmes
  • Quick learner with the ability to teach others
  • Physically active & able to be on your feet all day, often exposed to the outdoor elements (if you don’t like getting wet or muddy this isn’t for you!)
  • Flexibility to work shifts including some weekends and overnights

  • Currently hold the right to work in New Zealand and currently be in New Zealand.
  • Return a satisfactory Police Vet before commencement of employment.
